Allergic Asthma and Rhinitis Caused by Household Rabbit Exposure: Identification of Serum-Specific IgE and Its Allergens

چکیده
Although rabbits are common domestic pets, severe respiratory allergic reactions to rabbits in households are unusual. Ory c 1, a 17-kDa glycoprotein found in saliva and fur, has previously been identified as a major rabbit allergen. In this report, we describe the cases of three patients with rabbit allergy who presented with asthma and/or rhinitis while living in households with detectable levels of serum-specific IgE and major IgE binding components. Three patients with rabbit allergy and 18 unexposed nonatopic healthy controls were enrolled. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for serum-specific IgE and IgG(4) to rabbit epithelium and inhibition ELISA were performed followed by sodium dodecye sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and IgE immunoblotting. All three patients with rabbit allergy had high serum-specific IgE antibody levels compared with controls. The results of the inhibition ELISA showed significant inhibition with the addition of rabbit epithelium, whereas no significant inhibition was noted with the addition of cat and dog epithelia. Two IgE-binding components with molecular weights of 16 kDa and 67.5 kDa were identified by IgE immunoblotting. In conclusion, rabbit exposure may induce IgE-mediated bronchial asthma and/or rhinitis in domestic settings.

Serum Level of Selenium, IL-4, IL-10 & IFN-g in Patients with Allergic Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis and Healthy Controls
Background: Allergic diseases have increased during the past decade worldwide. Th2 type lymphocyte response is known to play an important role in the process of allergic inflammation. IL-4, a mediator of type II cytokine response increases IgE synthesis and Interferon gamma, a cytokine of type I response interferes with IL-4 and inhibits IgE production. Selenium is an essential component of glu...

For years, fungi have been associated with asthma and other reactive airway diseases. In contrast to type I-mediated allergies caused by pollen, fungi cause many allergic diseases such as rhinitis, allergic bronchopulmonary mycoses, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and allergic sinusitis. Aspergillus fumigatus is the most prevalent fungi which causes severe pulmonary allergic diseases, including al...
متن کاملAllergic Sensitization to Perennial Allergens in Adults and Children Sensitized to Japanese Cedar or Japanese Cypress Pollen in Japan
In Japan, seasonal allergic rhinitis in the spring due to exposure to Japanese cedar or Japanese cypress pollen is common. However, the allergic profile for perennial allergens in spring pollinosis remains unclear. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the allergic profiles of 652 patients with rhinitis. Total serum IgE, serum-specific IgE, and blood eosinophil counts were measured. Allergi...
متن کاملFrequency of Mold Allergens in Allergic Rhinitis Patients
Abstract Background and Objective: Allergic rhinitis can be stimulated by several allergens. Molds are among these allergens and it is important to assess their frequency in different geographic area. Hence, we aimed at determining the frequency of mold allergens in allergic rhinitis patients referred to specialized clinics of Tabriz Imam Reza hospital, 2011. Material and Methods: This cross-...

OBJECTIVES Wood dust is a known occupational allergen that may induce, in exposed workers, respiratory diseases including asthma and allergic rhinitis. Samba (obeche, Triplochiton scleroxylon) is a tropical tree, which grows in West Africa, therefore, Polish workers are rarely exposed to it. This paper describes a case of occupational asthma caused by samba wood dust. MATERIAL AND METHODS The...
